By Ganga Das – ISKCON Oakville
From this article ISKCON centers can learn about going live using a smartphone with specific apps on multiple social media platforms without any cost. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help get started:
Prerequisite:
- Facebook Account
- Youtube Channel
- Restream.io ** (Platform for linking youtube & facebook accounts)
**This site allows only two platforms at maximum to use their free service to go live. If more platforms are required to be linked, then you will be required to pay for it.
Apps To Be Installed:
- Streamlabs application should be installed on the phone ( iOS / Android)
Linking Social Media Into Restream.io
In this step, we will link the ISKCON centers facebook and youtube accounts within Restream. Once we link the account within the restream, we will get a RSTP link that will be used within the Streamlabs app for broadcasting.
Note** Periodically facebook will require you to re-authenticate your account with restream for security reasons. Before you go live, always check if Restream is fully connected to your social media platforms.
Step 1: Please goto www.restream.io & create a account for logging into the platform.
Step 2: Click on Sign Up for Free or Continue with Google and complete the steps on the screen.

Step 4: Click on + New Stream & select Encoder | RMTP. After this you will see option to add your social media platforms as channel and also set a title for your stream
Note** While setting up your title, you can setup it generic for this title will be posted when ever you go live using restream in your social media platforms.
Step 5: Please connect your social media platform using the account and after successfully connecting them you will see it as below.
Note** Youtube and Facebook will require certain permission and youtube can take up to 24 hrs before it gets fully activated due to privacy and security reasons for first time going live. If you have been going live already using these platforms, then it should be simple to complete this setup.
Step 6: Once these platforms are successfully linked, you will see them activate as below
Step 7: Please copy/save the URL & Stream key displayed below (RTMP). This information will be used for streaming.
The required steps for linking social media platforms are completed. In the next section, we will use the RTMP details copied above into the Streamlabs app in your smartdevice.
Streaming from your Smart device
As mentioned in the prerequisite section, you will need the app “Streamlabs” to be installed in your smart device. In the below steps will show how to configure the RTMP details in the app for going live.
Step 1: Open the app on your device and select Custom RTMP for configuring the details we saved in the previous section. Enter the URL & Stream key copied.
Step 2: Once the information is entered and saved, it will prompt you to provide access to the camera & microphone. Please allow these access for the video and audio to be captured as part of the live stream.
Step 3: After providing the access, you will see an option to Go Live. (If the url or stream key is entered wrongly then streaming will not work.
Please ensure the details are provided correctly.)
